The Department of Economics at the University of Michigan places its PhD students successfully. Many of our students are placed directly into tenure-track positions in academic institutions, others get jobs in excellent non-academic institutions like the Federal Reserve System, the IMF, the Treasury, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, etc. Still others get attractive post-doc positions and later.

Others have accepted research functions and economists’ posts at research institutions, international organizations, government research offices, research departments of large corporations, and professional.

The MPhil provides training in economics at graduate level, comparable to the first two years of the PhD programme at the best international universities. If you have not completed the MPhil in Economics at the University of Oxford but hold a master’s degree or equivalent in economics and wish to undertake research for the DPhil then you may apply to be admitted as a Probationer Research.
